Philipp Henkel ist ein deutscher Komponist, Kurator und Multimediakünstler mit Sitz in Hannover. In seiner Musik verwandeln gestische Instabilität und erweiterter Expressionismus das subjektive Hörerlebnis. Seine Kompositionen und Multimedia-Arbeiten erforschen die Auswirkungen von Technologie und gesellschaftlichem Scheitern durch einen forschungsbasierten Ansatz. 

Seine Musik wurde von Ensembles wie Trio Recherche, Quasar, Axe and Pile, Musikfabrik und Hand Werk in Europa, Asien und Nordamerika aufgeführt. Jüngste Uraufführungen fanden im Sprengel Museum in Hannover, bei Unerhörte Musik im BKA Theater in Berlin sowie im ZKM in Karlsruhe statt.

Neben seiner künstlerischen Tätigkeit ist Philipp auch als Referent auf verschiedenen Kongressen aktiv. Er hielt bereits mehrere Vorträge am ZKM und auf der Csound-Konferenz in Cagli, Italien. Seine Antivitäten als Produzent und Tontechniker sind auf mehreren Aufnahmen und Veröffentlichungen zu hören.

Sein Kompositionsstudium absolvierte Philipp an der Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover bei Prof. Ming Tsao und Prof. Gordon Williamson. Während dieser Zeit war er zweimaliger Deutschlandstipendiat und nahm an Meisterkursen u.a. bei Rebecca Saunders, Johannes Schölhorn, Chaya Czernowin, Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf, Gottfired Michael König, Fabien Levy, Matthias Spahlinger, Dieter Mack, Sven-David Sandström und Manos Tsangaris teil. Während seines Studiums engagierte sich Philipp in der Hochschulpolitik, zunächst im Studentenparlament und später im AStA der HMTMH sowie im Prüfungsausschuss für Komposition. Als Studierendenvertreter hat er das Netzwerk der norddeutschen Fachschaften sowie den bundesweiten Zusammenschluss der Fachschaften an deutschen Musikhochschulen (STUM) mit initiiert.

Philipp ist Mitbegründer und Leiter des Kollektivs für neue Musik und Medien neuMERZ, sowie Mitglied von Radiant8, einem Ensemble für zeitgenössische Musik in Düsseldorf und künstlerischer Leiter von Ensemble Quarks.

Philipp Henkel is a German composer, curator, and multimedia artist based in Hannover. In his music, gestural instability and extended expressionism transform the subjective listening experience. His compositions and multimedia works explore the implications of technology and societal failure(s) through a research-led approach. 

His music has been performed by ensembles including Trio Recherche, Quasar, Axe and Pile, Musikfabrik and Hand Werk across Europe, Asia and North America. Recent premieres have taken place at the Sprengel Museum in Hannover, Unerhörte Musik at the BKA Theater in Berlin, as well as the ZKM in Karlsruhe.

In addition to his artistic activities, Philipp is also active as a speaker at various congresses. He has given multiple lectures at the ZKM and at the Csound conference in Cagli, Italy. His antivities as a producer and sound engineer are evident on several recordings and publications.

Philipp completed his studies in composition at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Prof. Ming Tsao and Prof. Gordon Williamson. During this time, he was a two-time recipient of the Deutschlandstipendium and participated in masterclasses with Rebecca Saunders, Johannes Schölhorn, Chaya Czernowin, Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf, Gottfired Michael König, Fabien Levy, Matthias Spahlinger, Dieter Mack, Sven-David Sandström and Manos Tsangaris, amongst others. Philipp was involved in university politics throughout his studies, first through the Student Parliament and, later, through the AStA of the HMTMH, as well as in the examination board for composition. As a student representative, he helped to initiate the network of the North German student councils, as well as the nationwide association of student councils at German music universities (STUM).

Philipp is one of the founding members of and the Director of the new music and media collective neuMERZ, as well as a member of Radiant8, a contemporary music ensemble based in Düsseldorf, as well as Quarks.
